Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.
Gold Award
Just when I thought things couldn’t get any better Mr Allen burst into my room to tell me we have achieved a GOLD AWARD for PE at Grange! This is amazing news and reflects the hard work that has been done not only be Mr Allen, as our PE Lead, but also to every member of staff who teaches PE, is part of OPAL Play, runs a sports club and our PE curriculum. Mr MacDermott will be taking over from Mr Allen as PE Lead in September. I had a meeting with him today about PE and he is on a mission to achieve the GOLD AWARD for the next 3 consecutive years as we will then qualify for the PLATINUM AWARD! Mr Mac already has some exciting developments for this area of the curriculum up his sleeve- we will reveal more in the months to come!
Grange First School has a very proud sporting heritage (not least being the place where Mr. Alan Shearer first kicked a football in a playground!) We recognise the contribution of PE and sport to the wider health and wellbeing of our children. We also believe that a broad, balanced high quality curriculum and extra- curricular activities have a positive impact on concentration and academic achievement.
Our aim is to engage as many of our children as possible in the widest range of physical activities and sports. Our teachers work hard to make sure that all children get at least two hours of high quality Physical Education every week.
In Summer 2024 we achieved the Silver School Games Mark for the excellent physical education opportunities we provide for our children.
Sporting Participation
Our children have the opportunity to join in with many extra-curricular sport clubs and activities these include:
- Netball
- Forest School
- Dance
- Cricket
- Tennis
- Football
- Athletics
- Basketball
- Golf
- Cross Country
- Gymnastics
- Dodge ball
In the last few years we have competed against other teams in the city and the region at swimming, football, athletics, benchball, multi-skills, tennis, skipping, archery, cricket, rugby cycling and dodge ball. Staff at Grange also organised the Gosforth Schools’ Cross country championships and the ever popular Grange North Run and Physical Week.
