PE & Sport Premium
Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.
Grange First School has a very proud sporting heritage (not least being the place where Mr. Alan Shearer first kicked a football in a playground!) We recognise the contribution of PE and sport to the wider health and wellbeing of our children. We also believe that a broad, balanced high quality curriculum and extra- curricular activities have a positive impact on concentration and academic achievement.
Our aim is to engage as many of our children as possible in the widest range of physical activities and sports. Our teachers work hard to make sure that all children get at least two hours of high quality Physical Education every week, including a daily Wake Up Shake Up and the Daily Mile in Key Stage 2. Over 80% of Key stage 2 children took part in a festival or competition representing the school or played for a school team! Well done Grange Sports stars!

Sporting Premium at Grange the first five years
In the first years of the Sports Premium we joined together with the other 8 First schools in Gosforth to employ a sports specialist teacher who was an outstanding sports specialist who has previously worked within the Gosforth Pyramid of schools as a School Sports Coordinator. She worked alongside teachers in our schools to model lessons, plan an innovative PE curriculum, organise inter school events and through training and mentoring build up the skills of all of our staff.
We have continued to spend the funds on building up the ability of our teachers and LSAs to deliver the very best PE lessons in school, often alongside high quality bought in Sports coaches.
We have focused funds to allow classes, groups and individuals to access different sports, some for the first time, to enter competitions and to develop skills through links with specialist coaches and clubs. We will employing experts to deliver in school and out of school clubs that will introduce new sports to our school, we will pay for travel and teacher release time to allow children to take part in the widest range of events and we will ensure we have the best resources to allow every child to take part a sport they will enjoy.
