Pupil Premium
Please read the information below which gives details of our Pupil Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.
Pupil Premium Grant
The aim of the Pupil Premium money is to support our children from lower income families and to ensure we work closely with families to ensure any barriers to these pupils achieving and attaining as highly as other groups right across the curriculum are removed.
Pupil Premium is specific, additional funding that the government provides to schools to support the education of pupils who are eligible for free school meals, are looked after children or whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.
Who receives the Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium can be allocated to all pupils from Reception. You are entitled to this funding if you are registered for Free School Meals (FSM), or if you have been registered for FSM at any point in the last six years (this is known as ‘Ever 6’). Pupil Premium is also allocated to adopted children and children who have been in care continuously for 6 months or more (known as ‘child in care’ children). There is also a service child premium for children with parents who are currently serving in the military.
Who is eligible for free school meals?
Children are eligible for free school meals if their parents or carers receive any one of the following benefits:
- Income Support
- Income-based Job Seekers Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- Pension Credit Guarantee
- Child Tax Credit without Working Tax Credit and an annual taxable income below £16,190.
At Grange First School the Inclusion Committee, Finance, Premises and Staffing Committee and Curriculum and Achievement Committee have responsibility for making these decisions and monitoring their impact, alongside the Senior Leadership Team.
How is the money spent?
This money is spent in a variety of ways to support disadvantaged pupils across our school to overcome barriers to their learning. This might include improving attendance, supporting emotional and mental health & well-being, narrowing attainment gaps or providing enhancement opportunities to the curriculum.
We are held accountable for the decisions we make regarding the spend of our Pupil Premium allocation and the impact it has had for pupils.
