• Handwriting drop-in sessions

  Thank you to everyone who attended our handwriting drop-in sessions this week. We hope you enjoyed them and that you got an insight into how we develop fine motor skills, letter formation and handwriting at Grange. Over 200 parents and carers attended our sessions which is wonderful! Here are two of our nursery children threading hoops onto spaghetti. This is a great activity for developing fine motor skills.

  

• Children's Cancer Run update

  In May, a group of Grange children, families and staff took part in the Cancer Run at Gosforth Race Course. We raised £1,247.50 in aid of this charity. This is fantastic! A huge thank you to everyone who took part or sponsored our runners

  

• Remembrance Day

  We have had a Remembrance Day assembly this week in school. I shared memories of both my grandad’s. My Grandad Reg was a warden in WW2 in London and my Grandad John was a firefighter at the hospital in Ashington. Mr Wilkinson used to be in the army and brought his medals in to school to show us. We all had 1 minute of silence today to remember and thank the people who helped to protect and take care of us during wars. Remembrance is also a time of hope for a peaceful future.

  

• Curriculum Corner

  Our curriculum came to life this week when Year 1, 2 and 3 took their children on trips to enhance and support their learning back in the classroom. Resilience, creativity and community are the three main drivers of our Grange curriculum and they could be seen in abundance on all 3 trips.

  

• Music at Grange

  On Wednesday, the children in Key Stage 2 took part in the Big Gig at the Vertu Arena along with other schools from across the city. The theme this year was ‘Back To The 80s’ and the children have been very busy over the past few weeks preparing their songs and instrument parts. They had rehearsals in the morning then played to an audience of parents in the afternoon. The children made up part of the choir and some of our Year 4s provided backing on the ukuleles. Everyone had a fantastic time singing, dancing and playing along to some iconic songs.

• Cancer Run

  Cancer Run

  We had a brilliant morning on Sunday for the Greggs Cancer Run! It was lovely and warm as always and it was great to see lots of our Grange families there again this year. We know lots of you got caught up in the traffic so we’re sorry if you missed the team photo! It was lovely to see you all at the end enjoying your gingerbread man! 

  This year celebrated the 40^th Cancer Run. It was started by a school 40 years ago, in support of one of their pupils who was sadly battling cancer at the time. 40 years on, the run has raised over 8 million pounds for cancer charities – so a huge thank you if you came along with us this year or in years gone by! 

  

• Coronation Day

  The sun was shining on Tuesday when we had our Coronation Day at Grange. We were luckier than King Charles III with the weather! Everyone came to school dressed in red, white and blue to mark this historic occasion. We all enjoyed a picnic outside on the grass. Lots of children made flags and crowns which they wore to our whole school singing session at the end of the day.
